Innovative Button Placement
Compared to leading mobile giants such as Apple and Samsung, LG has yet to make a huge impression with it's phone designs. That is until now. The first big impact to the mobile phone world that LG has made is with it's newest, sleekest design, the LG G2. It has many new features that have never been incorporated into a phone before and they have changed around some of the typical features to make this phone something special. To start with, the volume and power buttons aren't where you would normally expect. Up until now, every phone you've owned has most likely had the volume buttons on the side and the power button on the top or side. Now, the G2's innovative design has the volume and power buttons on the back side, underneath the camera and flash. The idea is that it will be easier to change the volume mid call and your finger no longer has to reach across the entire phone to reach the buttons. Overall, the reception of this change has been positive. After years of muscle memory though, it does take a few weeks to get used to such a drastic change. Something that hasn't changed with these buttons is that you can still conveniently take a screenshot by holding down the power and volume down buttons at the same time.
In the past years, it seems like phones just keep getting larger and larger in order to increase the size of the touch screen. This can be good or bad depending on how you look at it. The LG G2 is incredibly thin, measuring in at only .35 inches and has a 5.45" x 2.8", which leaves no room to fit in your pocket if you wear semi-tight jeans. The up side to it's larger size is a big screen that is easy to view and more room for your fingers to touch if you have larger fingers as the screen is 5.2" in total. It is also much thinner than other phones such as the iPhone 5s.
This massive display as a resolution of 1920x1080 and a 423 ppi density. It is responsive to any touch, even with a gloved hand, due to it's dual-routing touch-screen sensor technology. Even only medium brightness, the screen view is clear and crisp and colors are vibrant. Compared to the HTC One and the G4, it is obviously brighter without consuming excess battery life. There is a wider viewing angle and viewing the screen in sunlight was a breeze but it is necessary to commonly wipe the screen off. Finger prints and natural oils seem to stick like glue to the screen which can be irritating at times.
Software
The LG G2 comes standard with Android 4.2.2. which includes a number of useful apps such as Google chrome, Gmail, Maps, and more. The drive-mode app is very practical for 2014 and can end up saving lives from reducing the urge to text and drive. It silences notifications and also sends auto reply messages to texts when it senses you are moving faster than 40 km/h.
