Asus ZenWatch Review

Even the small timers can get into the game of electronic wearables. Although they aren’t near the size of Apple, Samsung or Google, Asus is trying their hand in creating a stylish wearable watch that will surprise and excite fans of wearable electronics. The bold design and emphasis on style of the ZenWatch is Asus’s plan to set it apart from the rest of the options available in Kuwait. The Taiwanese manufacturer has put out a valiant effort to get in the spotlight for wearables but is it worth your time and money or is it just another failed attempt?

Design

Similar to most wearable designers, Asus has tried to stand apart from the crowd with a sleek and fashionable design which in this case, actually pulls from the classic designs of many old-fashioned watches. The beautiful curved body build from stainless steel accompanied by a stitched leather strap will leave you with a polished, classic look that is ideal for both daytime and evening wear. There is also a quick-release clasp for the strap and a sturdy Gorilla Glass 3 watch face.

zenwatchThe actual size of the device may appear a little large to actually pass off as a real classic watch but it is definitely no smartphone with a 1.63”display. The resolution is 320x320 pixels which is pretty solid and perfect to see small icons and text that will appear on the interface. The design makes the device comfortable to wear and not too bulky thanks to its slim construction.

Due to the construction being magnitudes slimmer than most wearables, some features must be different. The heart rate scanner is a sensor on the front of the watch rather than the glowing red heart rate scanners on Samsung devices. There’s also no micro-USB port on the device so it must be charged by being plugged into a special charging cradle.

Apps and Internal Specs

The ZenWatch is powered by Android Wear which is a powerful operating system built by Google which is special for smartwatches. On top of being powered by Android Wear, there are also special Asus apps which make the ZenWatch more unique. The interface is a breeze to navigate through thanks to the various menu icons that can be found by swiping side to side on the screen. Voice commands can also be activated with the phrase, “OK Google” which creates a hands free device.

The compatibility varies by phone but any smartphone run on Android 4.3 or above will be compatible with the smartwatch. There are 4 GB of internal memory built in to the device. The ZenWatch is run by the Qualcomm 400 processor as well as 512 MB of RAM. It is also splash-proof but definitely not meant to take swimming.

The Bottom Line

For such a useful device, the ZenWatch Kuwait price is expected to easily be under KWD 100 which makes it affordable and convenient for most everyone to enjoy. The new design is creating a new trend, trying to bring back classic looks with a more innovative technology.
